I'm under illegal detention, says Micheno Cooperative Scheme Founder

The founder of Micheno Micro Cooperative Society, Mr. Michael Eke has raised alarm over his state of health since his detention at the Nigeria police Force Headquarters in Abuja over the crash of the scheme in August.

Micheno Micro Cooperative with head office in Calabar, announced in August to its over 27,000 subscribers in over 17 countries including Japan, Australia, South-Korea, Ghana ,Ukraine Trinidad& Tobago,U.S.A  among others that there was modification in the mode of payment policy and operation of the cooperative.

Vanguard learned that this announcement caused panic not only in Calabar but the entire country due to the number of people with investment in the cooperative which led to a series of threat, arrest and counter arrest.

Speaking with newsmen, Mr. Eke said he has been incarcerated for three weeks without cause and has in the process come down with a terrible infection which has become a great threat to his life because he has not received any form of treatment even though he was taken to hospital by the police for a test.

His words: “I came here on my own when I got an invitation to come to the Force Headquarters in Abuja ,I was not arrested, I came on my own. I have also  submitted my international passport before now. But surprisingly, I was detained here and its three weeks running without any explanation.
“They told me initially that I was detained based on an order by the National Assembly for 13 days but its 22 days now. I am have been stooling blood since due to complicated pile issues which the doctor said might get infected if not treated .

“I have not used the toilet for over a week now because I am afraid of been infected. The doctor which they (police) took me to for test told me I might get infected if I use a public toilet. I am unable to go to toilet since then. I have lost a lot of blood in the process as the pains aggravate on a daily basis.

‘’My ordeal was not my making, and I am not a fraudster as I have been labeled or made to look by the people who took advantage of the matter and dubiously took money from unsuspecting investors of the cooperative in the name of filing a petition against me and writing an open letter to the Speaker of House of Representatives.
“They also claimed that they will make the National Assembly release money to them through CBN from our Banks but I want the public to know that I am not on the run, I want to pay people back their money but the arrests, harassment have made this impossible and the freezing of all accounts.

“I want to assure all our subscribers that even if it means that this is the only thing I will do (pay back their money) I will gladly dedicate the whole of what is left of my life to achievement this because I am not a criminal as my detractors wants the public to believe because if I was on the run, I will not submit my Travel Documents (Passport), I won’t honour invitations by the police, I came here on my own, I was not forced and I was not arrested, but I willingly came here when I got an invitation.

Effort to speak with the Force PRO,Jimoh Moshood proved abortive as he was not taking phone calls neither did he return various calls made to his phone by journalists.
