Suspect nabbed after robbing, stabbing victim in Cross River

The Cross River State Police Command has made a significant breakthrough in their fight against crime with the arrest of a 25-year-old suspected armed robber, Daniel Etim Udoh in Calabar, capital of Cross River State.

The suspect was apprehended on Friday, August 15, 2025, after a distress call was received from a community leader at Edim Otop Street, Calabar, reporting a case of armed robbery.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Irene Ugbo, who confirmed the incident in a statement in Calabar on Sunday, said the suspect allegedly robbed and stabbed Mr. Sunday Ofem of No. 6 Boropit, Satellite Town.

It stated, “On Friday, 15th August, 2025 at about 10:47 am, the Command received a distress call from a community leader at Edim Otop Street, Calabar,  reporting a case of Armed Robbery.”

“The Command Anti-Cultism Squad was immediately mobilized to the  scene where one Daniel Etim Udoh, a 25-year-old male, had allegedly robbed and stabbed his victim, Mr. Sunday Ofem of No. 6 Boropit, Satellite Town. However, the suspect was arrested”, it stated.

“Upon arrival at the police station, the suspect attempted to escape during interrogation and was shot in the left leg, enabling his re-arrest. Both the suspect and the victim are currently receiving treatment at the police clinic and are responding well”, the statement read.

In addition, one locally made pistol, one live cartridge, and a pair of scissors believed to have been used during the attack were recovered from the suspect.

The state Commissioner of Police, CP Rashid B. Afegbua, commended the officers involved for their quick response and commitment to ensuring public safety.

He reiterated the Command’s determination to rid the state of criminal elements and urged citizens to continue partnering with the police by providing timely and credible information.
