Ochibe Bokyi Convenes Meeting on Peace, Security and Development in Boki

On August 16, the apex socio-cultural organization of Boki land, Ochibe Bokyi, held a crucial meeting at Oku-Bushuyu, the Oku Palace residence of its Global Chairman, Maj. Gen. Moses B. Obi (Rtd), OON.

The meeting attended both physically and virtually, was convened to address pressing issues of insecurity, violent clashes, and communal disputes particularly between Boje and Isobendeghe communities in the Boje clan.

In attendance were notable leaders including the Boki Local Government Chairman, Etieka Hon. Mrs. Beatrice Nyiam; the Paramount Ruler of Boki, HRM Otu Fredaline Akandu (represented by the Irruan Clan Head); HE Col. Edor Obi; AIG John Abang; Dr. Pius Tawo; Hon. Cletus Obun; Hon. Victor Abang (Member, House of Reps); Hon. Joe Obi Bisong; Rev. Fr. Michael Obi; Rev. Fr. Prof. Elias Kekong Bisong; Rev. Fr. Dr. Bob Etta; Col. Tony Nyiam (Rtd); Mr. Anthony Anyine (former Auditor-General of the Federation); Mrs. Rita Bassey; Sen. Matthew Mbu; Barr. O.N. Agbor; the Cross River State Commissioner for Information, Hon. Erasmus Ekpang (PhD), and several other political, religious, traditional, and community leaders, alongside youth representatives and clan heads.

Discussions focused on:

• Land disputes between Boje and Isobendeghe

• Security challenges and community safety

• Development initiatives for Boki

• Constitution of a new Ochibe Bokyi Executive Council

Speaking at the gathering, Maj. Gen. Moses Obi reaffirmed his commitment to serve the Boki people with dedication and unity of purpose.

Hon. Mrs. Beatrice Nyiam pledged to prioritize the interests of both indigenes and non-indigenes in Boki while supporting the efforts of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN), Boki Chapter.

House of Representatives Member, Hon. Victor Abang, also contributed, emphasizing collective responsibility in ensuring peace and progress.

In his message delivered through his representative, HRM Otu Fredaline Akandu appealed for an end to violence and communal clashes, urging the people of Boje and Isobendeghe to embrace peace as a foundation for development.

The meeting concluded with resolutions for sustained diaspora support, peaceful coexistence among political leaders, and a collective commitment to unity. It ended on a cheerful note with applause for the Ochibe Bokyi Chairman and a communal blessing
