“I made 5 Million Naira profit the same month I quit a 230k job to focus on business” — Phylo Modlin Odu

Phylo Modlin Odu, the Managing Director of FYLOMART, has stirred up conversations on social media after revealing that her food brand generated a profit of 5 million Naira in the same month she resigned from a ₦230,000 salaried job to fully pursue her business.

Miss Odu, who also serves as the Senior Special Assistant to the Cross River State Governor on Media Research, made a bold statement on Facebook that attracted the attention of hundreds of netizens, drawing both praise for her efforts and commitment, as well as criticism.

"The week I turned in my resignation letter was the same week I revived my business and shifted my mindset. I became more strategic in my conversations and business approach," she said.

In her words;

The month I resigned from a 230k job, I made 5 million naira in profit through FYLOMART.

It took a job that dampened my enthusiasm to make me realize that I could do a lot better running my own business after all.

It was an 8-5 job, a one man business and frankly, I accepted it just because I thought it offered a better title when someone asked what I did for a living. That turned out to be my shortest employment experience, because I couldn’t tolerate the inconsistent company policies.

The week I turned in my resignation letter was the week I revived my business and changed my mindset. I became strategic in my conversations and business approach. That got me two deals at once, which led to a five million naira profit. Some jobs are just the trigger a person needs to bring out the best in themselves.

I was comfortable with a certain amount of sales weekly or monthly, but now, I set targets for myself and strive to meet them. I remind myself that if I don’t hit those targets, I might end up working for people who would use me, sometimes disrespectfully, to grow their own businesses.

I’m not there yet, so quitting is not an option.
