The Nigerian Police have arrested the prime suspect behind the brutal murder of a commercial driver, Agage Ternenge, a native of Mbanyam in Mbatyough Council Ward, Vandeikya LGA, Benue State.

He was reportedly attacked and stoned to death while delivering a waybill to an individual in Obudu, Cross River State.

On Friday, July 18, 2025, a dispute over land situated between Vandeikya in Benue State and Obudu Local Government of Cross River State, degenerated to violence, with two other persons reportedly killed and several injured.

Soon after, a video of the incident emerged on social media, showing the assault carried out by a group of hoodlums on Agage.

A statement signed by Irene Ugbo, PRO in the Cross River State Police Command, stated, “On the Commissioner’s directives, the Divisional Police Officer of Obudu Division launched a targeted operation that led to the arrest of the suspect, one Adeshina Gilbert, a 35-year-old male from Abonkib, Obudu Urban, who is now in police custody.

“Efforts to apprehend additional suspects are ongoing, as the Command intensifies its manhunt to bring all perpetrators to justice.”

Commissioner of Police in Cross River State Command, CP Rashid B. Afegbua condemned the barbaric act.

He described the murder as a gross violation of fundamental human rights and dignity of person.

The CP extended condolences to the family of the deceased and urged the public to remain calm and law-abiding while justice takes its due course.
Family of commercial driver killed in Obudu demands body and justice


A disturbing video on the gruesome killing of Ternenge Ikpanor dominated the social media during the weekend with netizens condemning the actions of the captured killers as inhumane.

The family of a Commercial Driver, identified as Ternenge Ikpanor, and allegedly stoned to death in Obudu, Cross River state, is demanding the release of his body for proper burial.

This followed renewed communal crisis between the border communities of Tsar, Vandeikya local government area of Benue State and Obudu in Cross River State.

The slain commercial driver from Tsar Mbaduku, Vandeikya Local Government Area of Benue State had conveyed goods and passengers from Gboko, Benue state to Obudu where he was ambushed and mobbed to death.

Dr Elijah Ikpanor, the Deceased’s uncle, issued a statement on behalf of the family calling on the Inspector-General of Police to arrest the killers of their son and ask the Cross River State Government to ensure the release of the corpse to them as soon as possible.

According to the statement, the alleged killers released a video recording of the gruesome act on social media, claiming the deceased was from Tsar Mbaduku, a community involved in a boundary crisis with the Abonkip people in Obudu town.

However, both Cross River and Benue State Governments have yet to comment on the incident.
