The establishment of the SSDC is a landmark initiative—a reflection of  President Tinubu unwavering commitment to regional integration, economic diversification, and equitable national development. His ability to anticipate the economic potential embedded within the South South geopolitical zone, coupled with his intelligence, has birthed a commission that is not only poised to complement the mandate of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), but to elevate it into a more inclusive, forward-looking model of regional progress.

It is imperative to set the record straight regarding the recent publication by Mr. Kalu Okoronkwo on the chairmanship position in the South South Development Commission. His article, laced with misinformation and undue interference, represents an ignorant intrusion into the internal affairs of Cross River State. Such meddling, allegedly sponsored by Prof. Sandy Onoh, is not only uncalled for but deeply disappointing.

Prof. Onoh, who ought to be a unifying figure, is rather viewed by many as a betrayer of Cross River’s collective interest. The politics of rotation within the South South Development Commission is well understood, and Cross River State’s turn for the chairmanship will indeed come. When it does, a more deserving, competent, and pragmatic Cross Riverian will be nominated to serve the yearnings and aspirations of our people.

The publication by Mr. Okoronkwo must be categorically condemned. Cross Riverians are fully aware of their rightful place and role in the Commission, and no amount of external manipulation or misinformation will deter our resolve to uphold equity, justice, and capable leadership.

South South Development Commission – Rejecting Political Parasitism and Opportunism

It is becoming increasingly clear that the nomination process for the South South Development Commission was almost being manipulated to serve a narrow political agenda, driven by individuals like Kalu Okoronkwo and his preferred candidate, Prof. Sandy Onoh. Okoronkwo's recent verbose and grandiose write-up reeks of political sycophancy and can only be likened to the antics of a seasoned court jester.

Let it be stated unequivocally: Prof. Sandy Onoh, whose political history is stained with opportunism and betrayal, is not a suitable candidate to lead a commission intended to represent and uplift the entire South South region. He hails from the smallest local government area in Cross River State—an LGA that already boasts both a sitting Minister and the Secretary to the State Government—despite having the least electoral strength in the state.

Sandy Onoh’s political career is a cautionary tale of self-interest over service. He notoriously abandoned his senatorial mandate to serve as a political hatchet man for then-Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike. This alliance, forged out of personal greed rather than regional interest, culminated in his failure to secure victory as the PDP’s governorship candidate in the 2023 elections.

Rewarding such conduct with the chairmanship of a critical development commission is an insult to the principles of equity, representation, and meritocracy that the people of the South South region deserve.

In good fate,this article's intention hopes to sustain the principle of fairness,equity and justice in upholding the internal politics of Cross River State and for regional stability.
