Return All Government Vehicles, Governor Otu Warns Former Appointees

 

Cross River state Governor, Prince Bassey Otu, has asked former appointees of the previous administration, to return all government vehicles currently in their possession.

This was contained in a press release with ref no: SSG/GAO/102/VOL.VI 217, released on Monday, June 5, 2023, and was signed by Dr. Innocent Eteng, Permanent Secretary, General Administration Office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG).

This follows the establishment of a task force comprising law enforcement agencies and auditors, saddled with the responsibility of tracking down government vehicles, and ensuring that they are returned promptly to the appropriate authorities.

According to the release, the Taskforce is mandated to commence the immediate recovery of all Government vehicles and hand over same to the Transport Officer, Governor’s Office for appropriate documentation and custody.

Several high-ranking officials from the previous administration have been identified as custodians of government vehicles, despite the expiration of their tenures. The failure to return these vehicles, which are vital for public service delivery, has raised concerns over their potential misuse and diversion from their intended purposes.

Members of the vehicle recovery committee include, Chief Odey Ochicha, Chairman, and Barr. Emmanuel Eyo, Secretary. Members are Hon. Charles Atu, Chief Ayi Etim Effiong, Mr. Goddy Nyiam, Mr. Emmanuel Abeng, Mr. Emmanuel Awubi, Magnus Kale, CSP Moses Yisa, DSC. Egoh Ayamba, Barr. Gilbert Agbor Ntui, Comrade Ben Okorie, Mr. Mike Nsan, Chief Stanley Effiom, and Raymond Yenochia Ogar. 

Similarly, Governor Otu constituted task force on anti-deforestation. 

The Taskforce has the mandate to curb all forms of illegal wood logging in “our forest, with a view to preserving the rich biodiversity of the state as well as apprehend defaulters.”

The Special Taskforce on Anti-Deforestation has Mr. Charles Ikpeme as Chairman and Mr. Pius Abang as Secretary. Members are Chief Cyril Asuquo, Mr. Sunny Ayang, Mr. Edet Okon Ekpo, Effiong Okon, Felix Arikpo, Arikpo Kingsley, Canice Aniah, Idagu Charles Iye, Chief Okongor Sylvester, Mr. Timothy David Ekpali, Ogar Tawo Obi, Prince Savior Omin, Major I. P Usolor, DSP Enema Effiong Okon, ASC Dele Adero, Reginald Njoku, Simon Nkpang Abok, and Patrick Eyo Etim.
