SDP deputy governorship candidate in Cross River joins APC

Daniel Obo, the deputy governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Cross River, has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to NAN, Obo defected on Thursday in Obubra, Obubra LGA of the state.

Obo was said to have been received into the APC by Daniel Okpa, the Obubra urban ward party chairman, after registration and collection of party card.

Obo said he defected to the APC because the party “is youth-friendly”.

He added that the appointment of youths by Ben Ayade, the state governor, into the Cross River cabinet was part of the reasons he joined the APC.

“I represent the young people and we need to stand firm for the young people of our dear state. APC in Cross River has been favourable to the young people and their tickets were given to young people,” NAN quoted Obo as saying.

“We have realised that our strength is in the APC and that is why we took the decision to join the party and protect the young people.

“For today, we have the 18 youth council chairpersons at the local government level that are moving with me to APC. Also, over nine ward chairpersons from SDP have moved with me to APC.

“We have hundreds of young people who have also decided to join the struggle of protecting their generation.

“I want to charge youths in Cross River to get their permanent voter cards and come out massively to vote for all APC candidates in the state.”

Speaking at the event, Eteng Jonah-Williams, the state house of assembly speaker, said Obo’s defection to APC was timely.

Peter Odey, APC deputy governorship candidate in the state, assured Obo of “a seat at the table” if the party wins the governorship election in the state.
