The Governorship Candidate of the PDP and Senator representing Cross River Central Senatorial District, Senator Prof Sandy Onor has empathized with New Ndebeji Community as well as stranded motorists over the collapsed bridge in Akamkpa Local Government Area of Cross River State.
Senator Onor who was in the company of National and State Assembly Candidates of the PDP in the state, made the call on Friday, September 9th, 2022 when he visited the scene of the collapsed bridge that has stalled human and vehicular movement in and out of the community recently. Speaking to stranded motorists as well as members of the community, the Governorship hopeful said "We came here as a team to empathize with you and see what we can do to draw the attention of some critical government agencies to the challenge brought upon you by the falling of this bridge"
Sen Onor used the opportunity to call on the Cross River State government to do something about the the deplorable state of affairs in the area, adding that "We would like to talk to the State Government. We know this is a Federal road, but the state government has a duty to do what it can to salvage our people and get this road back in a hurry. We would get in touch with them, this is about development and the well being of our people, not about party politics."
He further highlighted the efforts he has made to fix the dilapidated road as he said: "I know that back in the Senate the issue of this road had been placed before me by SETRACO; the initial provision in the budget was supposed to be N800,000,000, but through my colleague, especially, the Chairman of Senate Committee on Works, I raised it up to about 1.500,000 000, but unfortunately that is still not enough for the road."
The Senator assured the people of his best efforts to attract speedy response when he said: "We do hope that we would keep the engagement stronger this year and get allocation to this road to be heavier than what it was last year."
