The Gubernatorial Candidate of the PDP and Senator representing Cross River Central Senatorial District, Senator Prof.Sandy Ojang Onor has described the people of Cross River State as a very blessed people.

He stated this Tuesday, July 26th, 2022 during the Official Commissioning of Cocoa Guest House, Workshop/Award & Ground Breaking Ceremony of Vocational/Conference Centre in Ikom, Cross River State.

The Chairman of Cocoa Association of Nigerian (CAN), Cross River State Chapter, Mr Ejor Bessong reteriated the associations' drive to raise local production of Cocoa to an enviable height, "We have been committed to ensuring that we raise the local production of Cocoa, increase it economic prominence and attract greater investment into our farms and by extension, the economy of the state and nation at large."

Also speaking, the representative of the Executive Governor of Cross River State and Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, Barr. Alphonsus Ogar Eba described CAN as the most orderly section in the state when he said: "We don't querrel because it is only God that gives power. Today, we are together to applaud the most organized sector, the most organized association I have seen in Cross River State."

On his part, Senator Onor said: "I would refuse to play politics. I would just like to say a few words to us. We are a very blessed people and one of the most important features of the blessings of God upon us is our cocoa. I am happy that all of us are playing big roles to have cocoa give us a big impact it should have upon us as a people. If you check we have underutilized the meaning of cocoa to our economy and to our people-hood. If you check gradually, but surely, we're beginning to have men amongst you who are beginning to understand what cocoa actually means and I want to thank all the industries and all the government people who are beginning to socialize our people Internationally to understand the entire value chain of cocoa so that all of us, our farmers, our chiefs, our people can tap into this beautiful product and make our society a better one."

The Incoming Governor further charged cocoa companies to live beyond mere partnership as he said: "I have listened to all the beautiful things you have said about the cocoa companies and I liked the fact that you are beginning to impact hugely on what is going on especially, as it concerns your corporate social responsibilities. But, you know, I would like you to do something much more. I want to see beyond government. Real partnership."

The event was attended by the senator and members of his entourage, representative of the Governor of Cross River State, past and current National Presidents of CAN, Captains of Cocoa Companies, Traditional Rulers, License Buying Agents (LBAs), Farmers as well as members of the Fourth Estate.
