The Team Leader, Biakwan Light Green Initiative presents the final copy of the Akwa Ibom WASH Policy to the Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Land and Water Resources, Capt. Iniobong Ekong (rtd) for onward transmission to the State Governor, HE Udom G. Emmanuel.
The presentation of the document took place in the Commissioner's office in the presence of senior government functionaries and stakeholders like Mr. Saviour Peter Udo, Acting General Manager, Akwa Ibom WASH Programme and Engr. Edu Bassey Esek, Managing Director of Akwa-Ibom Water Company.
Mr. Bette had stressed the importance of the WASH Policy as a development tool for sustainable WASH service delivery in the state, noting that the state government’s timely approval or signing of the policy would usher a paradigm shift in the state’s socio-economic development.
Engr. Esek thanked the development partner for proposing and facilitating a people-oriented WASH Policy for Akwa Ibom State through which stakeholders got the opportunity to participate in developing a workable document by themselves to meet the yearnings and aspirations of the people.
On his part, Commissioner Ekong emphasized that having followed the process resulting in the development and review of the final copy of the WASH Policy and considering its importance to the people of the state, he would work assiduously to ensure that his principal, the State Governor assents it (WASH Policy) in the nearest future.
BLGI facilitated the review of the State's WASH Policy with support from United States Agency for International Development (USAID)/State-2-State Project.
