The Executive Director Biakwan Light Green Initiative Mr. Peter Oru Bette and members of his team recently presented a WASH Ambassador's Award to the Head of Civil Service  Akwa Ibom State ,  Elder Effiong Essien for his immense contribution to the development of WASH sector in Akwa Ibom State

Presenting the award, Mr. Bette described Water, Sanitation and Hygiene as the gateway to achieving the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG6) as Biakwan Light Green Initiative in collaboration with Development Alternative Incorporated (DAI) with funding from United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is poised to increase Accountability, Transparency and Effectiveness in Water Sanitation and Hygiene.



He also appreciated Elder Effiong Essien for laying a good foundation in the WASH sector in Akwa Ibom state and expressed optimism that with the participation and engagement of critical stakeholders in the review of the existing draft WASH policy document. The number one civil servant in the state will fast track the process on how the policy can get to the Executive Governor for his assent.

In his acceptance speech, the Head of Civil Service, Elder Effiong Essien, appreciated the Executive Director of Biakwan Light Green Initiative Mr. Peter Bette and described the award as a call for action and more responsibility assuring that the WASH policy  will soon be presented to the governor for signing as soon as some bureaucratic issues are sorted out.



The event which had members of the Civil Society Organizations like Women in Nature Conservation (WINCO) and Tropical Research and Conservation Center (TRCC) present, had goodwill messages from the acting General Manager of Akwa Ibom State Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (AKRUWATSAN), Mr. Saviour Udo and Managing Director Akwa Ibom Water Company Limited, Engr. Bassey Etuk, both  extolling Biakwan Light Green Initiative for tirelessly engaging in  activities aimed at  ensuring   Akwa Ibom have a workable and actionable WASH policy as a tool for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals 6.
