The governor of Cross River State, Prof. Ben Ayade will undergo Coronavirus screening on his arrival in the state, Commissioner for Health, Dr Betta Edu has said.

Governor Ayade was out of the country when the news of the first Coronavirus case in Nigeria broke out on Friday.

Dr Edu, who addressed a press conference in Calabar at the weekend, said that the state governor, after he was briefed on phone about the development, has agreed to submit himself for screening upon his arrival in Calabar.

The Commissioner disclosed that security personnel and health officials have been deployed to all points of entry to ensure that everyone coming into Cross River is properly screened for COVID-19. According to her, the measures are geared toward checkmating the spread of the disease in the state.

She commended the governor for the massive support that has enable the state ministry of health to come up with proactive approaches and develop capacity to respond rapidly in case of any incident of the virus in Cross River.

While lauding the exemplary leadership of the governor, Dr Edu said by accepting to be screened on arrival, he has demonstrated the importance he places on the health of Cross Riverians, and as such would not want anything to compromise it.

“We have spoken to the governor and he has accepted to be screened once he arrived the state. We are leaving no stone unturned in our efforts to prevent the spread of Coronavirus in our dear state.”, she said.
