The National Centre for Women Development has stressed the need for more women to be involved in agriculture in an aggressive manner, assuring that large-scale supports are available for them.
The director general, Mrs Mary Ekpere-Eta, gave the assurance in Ikom, central Cross River State, when the centre gave out empowerment items to over 600 women beneficiaries in different trades and vocations.
Ekpere-Eta reassured that the federal government has resolved to enhance increased productivity in the agriculture value chain.
She said being involved in agriculture aggressively will boost personal finances for the women as production will increase.
She further disclosed that the centre would train more women and youth who would make agriculture a priority, stating that there’s need to be involved in the various aspects of the agric value chain.
“Some of you can go into snail-farming, mushrooms production, piggery, fisheries,and so on in an aggressive manner. We are ready to throw our weight behind any such venture.
We will undertake to train and provide access to finance for farmers of that nature,”she maintained. Items distributed by the DG included sewing and weaving machines, hair dressing equipment, vulcanizing and other tools.
