The Governor of Cross River State, Prof Ben Ayade, represented by the Deputy Governor, Professor Ivara has on Saturday granted amnesty to the Boki freedom fighters.

With over two hundred militants who took up arms surrendering their loyalty to the Cross River State Government in Oku-Bushuyu in Boki LGA, Cross River State.

Governor Ayade's amnesty gesture which was the outcome of a collaboration between the Federal government, the state government and the Operation Delta Safe was aimed at sustaining the state’s safe investment climate.

While addressing the ex militant group today, the deputy governor, Professor Ivara Asu thanked the ex militants for taking the bold steps by taking this decision to be law abiding citizens of the country. He advised youths not to allow themselves to be used by politicians as many of them send their Children to study in other countries and use them to gamble for political seats.

"Unbehalf of the Governor of Cross River State, Senator Prof. Ben Ayade, I grant you all amnesty" he said as he closed his remark.


The leader of the group Thomas Obi aka General Obi Iron, in his remark he said something happened before they decided to stand for the Boki people and as concerning the estate, the had backed off fully allowing the government to come in. Closing his speech, he said: "We cannot fight with the government, because we're under the government, today I surrender to the leadership of Cross River State. 

The Commander of Operation of the Nigerian Army, JA Nwagi advised the group never to go against this demonstration of surrendering to the leadership of the state and stay away from arms as this will be considered illegal. "Boki is now peaceful, we are now concentrating on Militants in Abi and Etung and we're are giving them up to January 1st 2019 to succumb to Ayade's amnesty programme" he said. 

The member representing Boki II Constituency in Cross River State House of Assembly, Hon. Hilary Bisong emphasized that "The is no better gift the Cross River State Government has given to Boki II than the gift of peace. He also pleaded for the privatisation of the estate  that there are available land for a company to be set up in Boki to make sure this peace last long. 

Concluding he said; The group who have surrendered today have Done this to join hands with the governor of Cross River State in 2019.
