They made the call during separate interviews after the conduct of the party Congress in Calabar, the state capital.
The re-elected Cross River State party chairman, Venatius Ikem, who described the congress as peaceful, said that it was time for all party members to embrace unity and restrategize ahead of the 2027 general election.
“This is a time to put our house together and rebuild the party for the challenge ahead. We had done a lot to sustain the PDP in Cross River State. So, this is a new charge for us to rethink our vision, correct ourselves, and move forward in a manner that we can achieve the ultimate success,” Ikem stated.
Similarly, the senator representing Cross River northern senatorial district, Senator Jarigbe Jarigbe expressed satisfaction with the conduct and turnout of delegates for the congress, which he described as legitimate and binding on all party members.
Jarigbe in an interview said: “This is a legitimate congress. It was calm, very organized and I also voted. The process was in line with the party’s constitution, it was transparent. We have chosen capable people to run the affairs of the party for the next four years and ahead of the 2027 election.”
He expressed confidence that the party would mobilise eligible voters across the state for significant impact at the forthcoming general election in Cross River.
Also, the 2023 PDP gubernatorial candidate, Professor Sandy Onor, who served as the senator representing Cross River central senatorial district from 2019 to 2023, said it was time for all members to unify to clinch political power in 2027.
He commended the National Working Committee of the PDP led by the representatives of the National Organizing Secretary for conducting a transparent, free and fair election.
According to Onor: “It is evident that the PDP has a huge momentum in Cross River State. We are glad we had a full house of delegates across the state, we had a proper panel and the future is beautiful and bright.
“We want unity, peace and progress. Together we are stronger. We ask all our members to please, get back to rhythm and continue to make PDP the United umbrella that it is. We have all the confidence that the new executive will do well,” Onor stated.
The congress, which held over the weekend in Calabar drew 1,541 accredited delegates from across the 18 local government areas of the state.
39 positions were contested for.
Announcing the results, Returning Officer, Jones Onyeyeri declared Venatius Ikem, winner of the chairmanship position with an overwhelming 1,501 votes.
Notable party elders at the congress were former state deputy governor, Efiok Cobham; Chancellor of the first private university in Cross River State, Sir Arthur Archibong and others.
