Malawian Parties Urge Transparency Ahead of High Stakes Elections

Several political parties have hailed the electoral commission for the timely arrival of ballots ahead of the September 16 Malawi presidential and parliamentary elections, urging the commission to ensure the "same level of transparency" during the voting process.

President Lazarus Chakwera is seeking a second term in office. His main rival is former president Peter Mutharika.

The two have faced each other several times before, with the 2019 poll being annulled by the constitutional court over voting irregularities.
