President Joseph N. Boakai have sacked the three top officials of the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency as public pressure mounts on the government to take tougher measures to curtail the rising use of illegal drugs in the country.
The president's action comes after a scandal involving a senior official of the anti-drug agency who was heard on a tape attempting to stop the arrest of his daughter who had been caught in connection with illegal drug use.
The officials sacking also follows a recent protest action by civil society, including women groups, who highlighted the dire impact drug abuse was having on Liberian families and the wider society.
