Governor Otu Lauds Cross River-Born WAFCON Winner, Miracle Usani

Following the standout performance, and winning of the 2024 Women African Cup of Nations, the Governor of Cross River State, Sen. Bassey Otu, has congratulated Cross River-born Super Falcons player Miracle Usani.

The Super Falcons came from two goals down to defeat host nation, Morocco 3:2 in a kindly contested final.

Governor Otu lauded Miracle Ofem Usani, for winning her first senior continental title.

In a congratulatory message by Governor Otu’s Chief Press Secretary and Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Linus Obogo, described Usani as a “shining ambassador” and “daughter of destiny” whose contribution to the Super Falcons’ success has brought immeasurable joy and pride to Cross River State.

Miracle, hails from Ibenda 1 Biko Biko, Ugep in Yakurr Local Government Area of Cross River State and was named in the Best XI of the CAF Women’s Champions League who was among the WAFCON-winning players honored by the Nigerian government with a national award, financial gifts, and housing.

“Miracle has etched Cross River’s name on the golden map of African football,” the governor said “Her courage, elegance, and excellence on the pitch reflect the pride, passion, and purpose we hold dear as a people.”

He commended the former U17 International and Edo Queens player for composure, skill, and tenacity on the continental stage, noting that her achievement is not only a personal milestone but a source of collective pride for Cross Riverians across the globe.

“Your dazzling performance has not only brought glory to the nation but has cast a radiant spotlight on our dear state, particularly your hometown of Biko Biko, Ugep. You are a worthy ambassador; graceful in skill, noble in spirit, and gallant in resolve,” he said.

“Her success rekindles a renewed sense of hope among our youth and reinforces our belief that greatness can bloom from our soil and shine upon the world.”

Governor Otu urged that her story be told widely, as a beacon of inspiration to the next generation.

“From the green fields of Ugep to the floodlights of continental stadiums, her journey is one of grit, grace, and glory. We must tell her story in our schools, in our homes, and on our playing fields. She is a mirror through which young people can glimpse the power of possibility.”

Miracle Usani described her win as a career milestone, positing that “Winning the prestigious WAFCON is a dream come true for me. It’s an incredible honor to represent the Super Falcons and wear the green badge. This victory has truly boosted my profile, I’m now a WAFCON champion, and I know my family will be proud of me.”

The Governor affirmed that in Miracle Usani, Cross River State has found more than an athlete, it has found a symbol of resilience and an enduring inspiration for future champions.
