The 115-kilometer Ikom-Boki-Obudu federal road linking Ikom through Boki to Obudu Local Government areas of Cross River State remains a dead trap and nightmare for travellers especially during the rainy season.

The Same road was allegedly awarded for rehabilitation, repairs to the tone of 4.21 Billion Naira in 2003, 21 years later it has repeatedly become a cashcow for unknown contractors as disclosed by Cross River Watch in 2023.
It was a wet morning on Saturday when BOKI BLOG visited Orimekpang town in the Boki Local Government Area of Cross River State. The journey which would have lasted an hour took over three hours as the driver, Mr Peter Eshi, battled with his vehicle’s wheels navigating his way amid potholes and tick mud signposting the terrible roads between bendeghe ekiem in Etung LGA and Orimekpang.
Eshi lamented that he had spent N45, 000 on the bus in a week, adding that he and his colleagues were tired of what they had to go through plying the bad roads on a daily basis.
He said, “One of the reasons why the transport fare through this area is high is because of the bad roads not even the cost of fuel alone, I must fix one or two things in my vehicle every week. We used to do six trips a day before, but now we do two to three trips due to low passenger turnout.”
A motorist, Mr Samuel Oko said, “This has been the pain we go through every year. It’s unfortunate we keep battling with the bad road every year, especially when it rains. Government should fix it once and for all.’’
