Alleged move to impose a governorship candidate for the 2023 election, has sparked crisis in the Cross River State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

However, the move, which is reportedly being championed by a former governor, is being resisted by a group under the aegis of Cross River State PDP Professionals (CROSPP).

The CROSPP, in a statement it circulated in Abuja yesterday, called on the national leadership of the PDP to intervene in the crisis to save the party from what it described as “a looming electoral disaster.”

The statement, signed by the leader of the group, Okon Edem-Ita, alleged plot to impose the founder of Arthur Jarvis University, Arthur Jarvis Archibong, as the PDP governorship candidate.


It called for a level-play field for all aspirants in the race through a free, fair and credible primary electio


According to Edem-Ita, the move by the ex-governor was meant to block the chances of some frontline aspirants and PDP chieftains, who can win the election for the part


The group listed Senator Gershom Bassey, Mr. Daniel Asuquo and Mr. Nkoyo Toyo as some of the viable aspirants the former governor was trying to frustrate.
