"The Fight Against Breast Cancer Continues; presently Over 30 cases of Women from remote villages Detected” - Dr Linda Ayade

Over 30 cases of breast cancer defected this October, Are Receiving Care...

Worldwide, breast cancer is the most frequently diagnosed life threatening cancer in women and the leading cause of cancer death amongst women and in 1% of men.

To this end, the fight against Breast Cancer takes another shape as the First Lady of Cross River State Dr Linda Ayade has decided not to leave any stone unturned using her NGO the Mediatrix Foundation in Collaboration with Breast Imagining Society of Nigeria (BISON), Cross River State Ministry Of Health, CRSPHCDA as well UCTH to tackle Breast Cancer with over 30 women already detected and undergoing proper medical attention.

Speaking during the Breast Cancer Awareness Months organized by BISON in collaboration with Partners, the Wife of the amiable Governor of the State Dr Linda Ayade has vowed not to relent on this fight stating that town criers have been sent across various Wards/Villages to carryout massive sensitization on Breast Cancer with over 30 women already detected this period from remote villages who will be refered for imaging by BISON and then surgeries, radiotherapy or chemotherapy.

"I'm very grateful to be here and to be a part of this fight not only as a the First Lady but as a woman. I want to use this opportunity to thank BISON for standing up for this fight and am reassuring them of my highest support and to state clearly again that Breast Cancer is not only a woman's disease but affect men as well. Am therefore calling on all cross riverians to make it a priority to always check themselves as early detection is the key to preventing death from this life threatening disease with a very high mortality rate especially in women.

"Let me also thank the CRS Commissioner for Health Dr Betta Edu and the DG of the CRSPHCDA Dr Janet Ekpenyong for working round the clock to keep our people safe and healthy and to assure you of my support and continuous backing as this efforts of yours as well as the efforts put into the Health Insurance Scheme so far is yielding positive results today. Herbal medication is not the answer on this breast cancer issue as there's a great need for our men and women to be properly screened, examine and treated properly."

The CRS Commissioner for Health Dr Betta Edu on her part advised cross riverians especially Women to take the fight against Breast Cancer seriously and access free care this Month. Don’t die in silence, don’t say it’s not my portion, back to sender or God forbid. Check Monthly. I want to therefore thank Her Excellency the amiable and dynamic First Lady of CRS Dr Linda Ayade for her tremendous support using her NGO the Mediatrix Foundation to support this fight as well as offering herself not only as the First Lady but also as a Woman and a Mother, as a State we can't thank you enough especially for sending town criers into our local communities to sensitize our women and the results so far has been commendable as over 30 Women have been detected and undergoing treatment.

"I want to use this medium to advise my fellow Women to self examine their Breast 10days into their menstrual cycle and if they detect any lumps they should immediately visit the nearest health facility, BISON, or any Doctor so they can get medical attention. Remember, early detection is the key to savings lives. Let me assure cross riverians again that as a Ministry we'll continue to partner with BISON that is doing a beautiful work to ensure imaging for more Women to make early diagnosis and know prognosis. I'll end by thanking the management of UCTH and CRSPHCDA for the support. Women do not gamble with your lives, get regular screening, image examination especially for people above 35yrs."

The Coordinator of BISON Dr Ofunime N. Ukweh and the CMAC of UCTH Dr Michael Eyong all reiterated their support to continually support this fight and to always give in their best to ensure that Breast Cancer is drastically reduced and detected as early as possible. Highlights of the event was the inspection of the entire facility where we have the Ultrasound Scan Suites as well as cutting of the 'Go Pink October' Cake by Her Excellency.
