June 12: Embrace peace, Pastor John Ewa Charges Boki People, Cross Riverians On Democracy Day

The Executive Chairman of Boki Local Government Area, Hon (Pastor) John Ewa has called on the good people of Boki LGA and Cross River State to embrace peaceful coexistence between one another as a result of the June 12 Democracy Day.

Democracy Day in Nigeria is being celebrated on the 12th of June this year. This is the first time the day has been marked on this date. And the change carries heavy symbolism for a country that’s known more years of being ruled by military men than by democratically elected leaders.

Until two years ago, the date on which Nigeria commemorated the restoration of democracy was May 29. But in 2018 President Muhammadu Buhari declared June 12 to be the new Democracy Day.

June 12 carries huge significance for older Nigerians. It was on this date in 1993 that presidential elections were held for the first time since the 1983 military coup. It was an event many observers have described as the most significant in Nigeria’s post-independence political history. It is still viewed as the freest, fairest and most peaceful election ever held in Nigeria.

Pastor Ewa who just assumed Office as the newly elected Chairman of Boki Local Government Council of Cross River State, have in line with this celebration of Democracy, urged Boki People as well as Cross Riverians to let go of events of recent past and embrace peace in the interest of all.

It can be recalled that in an interview with Boki Blog at Boje— the LG Council Headquarters, Hon Ewa maintained that Peace is one of his major agendas in office for the next 3 years. Pst. Ewa said the last five years without elected council executive have caused a Bridge if Peace in the Boki Land and that it was the right time to concentrate in bringing back this Peace.

As a result of June 12/Democracy Day, Boki People and Communities across the state have been charged to live in peace and harmony with one another.
