The President of the Christians Association of Nigeria (CAN), Cross River state Chapter, most Reverend Okon Bassey Ekpeyong, has assured that the Christians umbrella’s body in the state will do everything in its power to make sure that Christians comply with the directives of the Governor, Sen Prof Ben Ayade as regards measures put in place to tackle the spread of Coronavirus in Cross River State.
Most Reverend Ekpenyong who gave the assurance while addressing the press in Calabar stated that “Christians have no option than to obey the authority of government as it is with good intentions and for the protection of all citizens of the state and other Nigerians and foreigners in the state.
CAN, Cross River state, pledges its Support to the State government’s effort to effectively checkmate the dreaded global epidemic in the wake of the Coronavirus outbreak in the Country, and pledged a total support to the government measures to control the outbreak of the dreadful scourge in the state and the country and to keep CrossRiver state safe from the Coronavirus code named, COVID-19.
Speaking, the Senior Special Adviser to the Governor on Religious matters, Father Bob Etta commended CAN leadership in the state for being a responsible group that understands that the duty of every government is to first preserve lives and property of citizens.
He explained that an individual Christian or Christians body like CAN that respect and obey the good laws of land put in place for the good of the citizens is equally obeying the laws of God as Government is meant to serve the good of the people and not otherwise, expressing happiness that CAN in Cross River has always work in synergy with the Cross River state government for the good of all.
On Churches who disobey the directives of government, Father Bob in his Words stated, “There is already a task force going round, any church that is worshipping and conducting normal services in large group, keeping vigil and that such Churches will be closed and be sanctioned by CAN.
Father Etta stated that ‘It is a clear cut instruction to save lives and any pastor who is still conducting services and other Church programmes that brings people together in large numbers like keeping vigil and other weekdays activities is not helping to save God’s children lives but endangering the lives of the souls God placed in his charge.”
He advised Christians to do what is right, keep the social distance and stay indoors, a few weeks will not kill us.
His Excellency, senator professor Ben Ayade, had earlier addressed the state and the press on the Coronavirus that is the current deadly scourge afflicting the global community today and the measures he has put in place to keep the people safe and sound.
