Historical Origin Of Boki Tribes: How they got their names

All the tribes that left the ancient city of Boki and our prominent grandfather and King (Otu Owan Ofurien) were stubborn and disobedient children.

Problem started when the great grand father of Boki married many wives and had children and grand children that make up the present day Boki Nigeria and Boki Cameron.

Otu Owan Ofurien was a very powerful and rich king who Lord it all over the enemies and children .

He did not give breading space to his children for their self determination and decisions. The king was so mystical and feared by all including his wives and children.

Rebellion: They was a coup by his children against him for their freedom.
This went successfully and they was an exodus.

The king being angry of the rebellion, took the form of a Gian HAWK and launch an attack against the children mostly the Osokom/Orimekpang people.

Meanwhile the Boki people were associated with a popular disease (byibaab) which was treated with red camp wood. The affected person would rubbed grinded camp wood and left to stay in the morning sun for healing.

This was the case of a young affected child. The male child was administered the medication and left to dry in the sun.
The mystical King assumed the Hawk form and took away the child to a giant tree. This child was never brought back as the king used him for meat.

The news spread around and all the rebels ran for their safety. This is the true account of the major Boki tribes.

Hence their names were given according to their various experiences in the wilderness

However, nemesis of rebellion caught with them hence their sufferings on their sojourn which eventually gave them the various tribals name.

These includes:
Borum: Meaning escape.  They were the first set to rebel against the king and escaped. No wonder they were the  first occupants of the estate land. Though before settling down in their present location, they were made up of the Oku and Njua tribes. While the Njua ( kaku) loved the land around the mountains  for platain farming, the Oku ( invasion) mainly made of warriors,advanced to settle around Mbube in Ogoja.

Oku: meaning( invasion/opening way) this tribe was the warring arm of Borum. They went ahead and sojourn around Ogoja. With their bravery nature, this tribe gave the whites a tough fight in precolonial era ( hence the Oku massacre by the British army) Having been driven out around Ogoja, the sought the concern of their elder brother Osokom who shares boundary with Irruan for refuge between Irruan and Osokom.

Njua( Stagnant) nju a. This tribe remained around the Afi mountains that Borders Boki 1 and 2. This was mainly because of their specialization in plantain farming. They found the land fertile. The second Njua ( Bano ) meaning Njua salt. Are the embittered Njua sect that went to give aid their Oku brave brothers who had to engage enemies in wars.

IRRUAN: Narrow crossing. These were the second set that left . They have to cross a dreaded river through a tree fallen across the river( okukwa)

NSADOP: Meaning ate osa ekwa and deny. Nsa - Osa, Dop- dipp meaning deny. This tribe broke from Irruan but had a brief  romance and negotiations with the wandering Osokom people. Though they were counted as not keeping to the rules of reserving Osa in ekwa.  The perception of Nsadop changed as they gave their Wandering Osokom brothers clue on the well armed Okem people who had guns.
They help their Osokom brothers by advising them to take caution,remained with them or face the giants that may wipe them entirely. This news went across all the tribes on the gesture of Nsadop and they were reintegrated to general family and forgiven.

Osokom:  Oso- Deceive, koo- collect. Meaning the tribe that deceive and collect. Having denied the offer of Nsadop to sojourn with them, the Osokom people took their brothers advice on how to tackle the Okem people ( Ekajuk) and went for adventure.
On getting there, they introduced yams and prepared fine dishes for their host on an agreement to see and test their guns before giving them the yams. Their host foolishly fell to this deceit just as Esau fell to Jacob ( no wonder late Sir RT. Asu called them the Israelites of Boki because their Exodus was similar). They have to cross the Nwool River in Nsasop and gave their porridge to Esua ( Okem people) in the present day Agba Osokom. Hence the Agba giant hill is called Buka Okem ( Okem stone) This my grant parents warn us not to ever call the hill Buka Okem for fear of reprisal attacks but call it Kaku Agba ( Agba hill).


Orim Ekpang: Meaning escape from the lion's. This tribe was made up of the Forum Ekpang and Osokom 1 people. They encountered and defeated lions.
 This is the ancient traditional home of the osokom people after the mass Exodus from PA, the Otu Owan Ofurien.

BOJE: Meaning plenty children. This tribe was mainly made of young brave men and children from PA, Owan Ofurien. This tribe did not escape but left openly in front of the mystical King. Thus is because they were much and the king could not stop them.
Their Exodus provoked the king who turned into a giant hawk and took away a child who was being treated of an epidemic disease.

ISO BENDEGHE: Meaning behind Bendeghe. Their escape route was through Bendeghe and were protected by the Bendeghe people from the invasion of King Ofurien. This is the more reason they were Isolated as no brother could visit them.

KAKWAGOM: meaning Agom hill. These hills are the present Ejuab ebuam hills around Ogep and Bafin Etintim. ( meaning red or bloody porcupine) they warred against the Ndim people in this area and prevailed but could not sojourn they for fear of the unknown gun shots from Osokom after Osokom) defeated Okem. They pushed further and occupied their present land.

BAWOP: This tribe is made up of the Kakwagom youth squad (mainly spies ) they were sent to spy the land towards Mbube. They went in as labourers weeding grass for their enemies until they captured the land.
