No many women in the Nigerian politics have been giving the chance or giving themselves the chance to serve their people in different capacities as far governance is concern in Nigeria.
However, some leaders are born and some are made, a situation which has warranted 46-year old, Dr (Mrs) Martina Apie from Okwabang Community in Alankwu ward to take the bull by the horn and run for the Boki 1 State Constituency Cross River State House of Assembly in the 2019 general elections under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Known for her philanthropist nature, Dr Apie, who studied sports administration at the University of Calabar, has remain steadfast in her quest to serve the people if giving the mandate, going by her massive contributions in affecting the lives of those within her constituency.
Not intimidated by some of her male counterparts who are also vying for the same position in 2019, Dr Apie, has promised quality and positive governance for all and sundry.
Interestingly, despite been a widow, the mother of three children, has shown great determination, zeal and focus to actualise her political regardless of her been new in the system.
According to her: “I am currently a Lecturer at Unical and a part-time board appointee (Social Housing Board) CRS. I have worked for the party, i have paid my dues, my coming to the party to contest is because i have supported others and others will support me. I take delight in the joy of others, my community has Government intervention(project) through my support.
“Many students (not only Boki) got admission into the Unical through my support, i have equally assisted many with either school fee , feeding money, money to pay for Job or project etc. I have the quest to contest because I wish to serve my people and give you quality representation. My aspiration is not a despiration anyway, support me and you will never regret.
People have been reacting strongly both for and against her, but with her decision to raise her political sights; the odds are good that more people are for her than against her now.
