In their time, this troika, (L-R) - Otu Thomas Atah Elembe, Otu Dominic Ocheone-Ade Ofre and Otu Boniface Echokonong Ochang, laid the foundation for a modern BUANCHOR.
Together, through traditional wisdom from their sacred ancestral stools, they weilded their respective villages of Nkanacha, Mbayang and Okuni into a unified, solid, formidable Buanchor community where resilience has become a part of living.
They most importantly began the struggle to give the community a motor able road. And with bare hands our fore-fathers set about the arduous task. This effort has at last produced an asphalted road from Wula through Olum.
The present generation may not know that in the early 70s, with iron boxes on the heads, in our very early teens, we trekked through the forest to Boje. And when the only once-a-week transport lorry (Zachary) was unavailable, we continued the trek on to Nsadop, then Bansan & Ogep Osokom and finally to Okundi, where we accessed Secondary education at Boki Boys' Secondary School (BBSS).
Today, Secondary education has been sort of democratized and is readily available in the community and everwhere else you go in the immediate neighbouring communities.
These breakthroughs must be continuously exploited by our teeming youth in order to properly position BUANCHOR to be a part-taker in every opportunity being offered in this globalized, digitalized world.
There can be no better way of keeping alive the memories of these three traditional icons, who have since joined the ancestors, than to ensure that their toils, and those of other illustrious fore-fathers, were not in vain!
